BIBLE STUDY TUESDAYS

Bible Study - From Abraham to Paul
Thank you, Reverend Heather Miner
for a wonderful fall Bible Study!

I am excited to offer a study of the main characters in the Bible at Neighborhood Congregational Church!  This is a theological study where the questions are less about how old, exactly, was Abraham when Sarah gave birth to Isaac and more about how his story has shaped the story of the people of faith. What questions of life do the Biblical writers seek to answer?  How do their questions inform our own?

In the first 8 weeks we will read together the scriptures which tell of Abraham, the shared ancestor of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.  We may know of Abraham as the man of faith, the one who went when God asked him to go.  But what about the other sides of Abraham and, thus, the other sides of faith?  What about the part of him that struggled to believe God would keep his promise when he was old and childless?  Why did God wait so long? What about the side of him that believed so much that, when he was finally given a child, he walked that son up a mountain to the altar where he was ready to take his life?  Why would God ask that of him?

Scripture’s most powerful intent is to bring you into relationship with the Holy One and with a living community of faith.  It is this that makes it compelling and true wherever you are on life’s journey.  Together, we will read and share, not to find the answer but to enter into a deeper relationship with our God and with one another.   Let your faith come alive–join us!  ~~Rev. Heather Miner

With gratitude to Sally Barron and Reverend B.J. who blessed this offering.
