Cold Weather Shelter "a Wrap"
The Laguna Beach Cold Weather Shelter for the homeless at NCC closed on January 28th. During the six-week season sponsored by NCC’s Justice, Outreach and You (JOY) Ministry, the shelter was open 38 of 48 nights, with an average occupancy of 25. Much love and gratitude is extended to our members, friends and neighbors who generously provided food, money and time, a warm smile and a hot meal, to make the shelter a place of safety, comfort and community.
None of this would have been possible without the volunteers, many of whom return year after year, and some who were introduced to the shelter for the first time. Overwhelmingly, they agreed that it was an enriching experience and look forward to serving again next year. Special thanks to our guardian angel, Don Black, who does it all with humility and a twinkle in his eye; and to Mary LaRusso and Karen Brackenbury who took over leadership when needed. The shelter is currently located at the Methodist Church until the middle of March.
