DAN RECKARD JAZZ CONCERT MAY 14!

May 15th, 2010 by pastormary | 0

We all enjoyed a wonderful evening of “Green Blues”
A  Night of Modern Jazz with Dan Reckard
8 p.m., Friday, May 14, 2010
Bridge Hall
Thanks for all your support of Dan’s music and schooling!

Join us this Friday night, May 14, at 8:00 p.m. when pianist-composer and Laguna Beach resident Dan Reckard leads 10 musicians — a string quartet, jazz combo and vocalist – in a program of original compositions and arrangements produced by the church’s music director, Pam Wicks. “I’m excited to premiere my new set, ‘Green Blues,’ in Laguna,” says Reckard. “You’ll see that the songs and titles reflect my experiences growing up here. I hope some of my old friends will come out and support me. Maybe they’ll remember the last time I premiered a piece here when I was an eighth grader and wrote a tune played by the Thurston Concert Band. I think you’ll hear a difference.”

Reckard, 21, is a junior at USC’s Thornton School of Music where, in January, he served as musical director of “From Bebop to Doo-wop to Hip Hop,” part of the university’s Visions and Voices arts and humanities initiative. Local audiences have applauded his weekend performances last summer at Zinc Café and earlier at the high school’s Max and Mark scholarship benefit concerts, and the town’s three art festivals.

Proceeds will help defray Reckard’s continuing music studies in Brazil, which start in June. A portion of proceeds will also benefit the south Orange County Surfrider Foundation chapter.

Tickets sold at the door cost $18 for adults and $15 for students. Refreshments and CDs will be sold during intermission and after the concert. An all-inclusive VIP package, including signed CD, beverage, dessert and reserved seating will be available for $40 per person.

After attending El Morro Elementary School and Thurston Middle School, Reckard attended Santa Ana’s Orange County High School of the Arts. He plays tenor sax in USC’s Thornton Jazz Orchestra, and piano in the honors combo, the university’s top jazz ensemble.
