Make a Difference: Simple & Free

“One Simple (and Free) Thing You Can Do To Make a Difference in the World”

NCC’s Justice, Outreach and You (JOY) Ministry Chair Sally Barron tell us that we can all make a difference in this world by going on-line once a day for just a minute.    (For “a click a day and the sponsors pay ” see www.thehungersite.com.)  Each of the six sites involved is supported by corporate sponsors and 100% of sponsor money goes to charity.
The Hunger Site has established itself as a leader in online activism, helping to feed the world’s hungry, since launching in June 1999.  Each click donates the value of 1.1 cups of food to Mercy Corps and Feeding America (formerly America’s 2nd Harvest).
The Breast Cancer Site provides free mammograms for women in need – low-income, inner-city and minority women whose awareness of breast cancer and opportunity for help is often limited.
The Child Health Site is dedicated to funding simple and effective preventatives and treatments with the goal of robust child health around the globe.  Working with their charitable partners, Mercy Corps, Prosthetics Outreach Foundation, Helen Keller International, Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation and the ONE Campaign, children in need are given a fighting chance to become productive contributors to society.
The Literacy Site, with its domestic partner, First Book, provides children from low-income families in the US with books they can take home and keep; and together with its international partner, Room to Read, provides books to children in some of the poorest regions of the world.
The Rain Forest Site is dedicated to the preservation of rain forests around the world through the purchase of rain forest land by the Nature Conservancy, The Rainforest Conservation Fund, The World Parks Endowment, and Rainforest2Reef.  Each click helps protect 11.4 square feet of rain forest.
The Animal Rescue Site focuses on providing food for some of the 27 million unwanted animals given to shelters in the US every year.  Food and care is distributed to animals in need at the Fund for Animals’ renowned animal sanctuaries (including Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch in Texas and the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in California), pet shelters supported by the Petfinder Foundation, North Shore Animal League, and other worthy animal care facilities.  Each click provides the value of .6 bowls of food to rescued animals.

It’s easy, it’s quick (less than a minute!) and it’s free!  If you sign up, thehungersite will send you an email reminder twice a week.  If you’re looking for something special for yourself, or a special gift for someone, each site has a store with an amazing number of reasonable and unusual gift ideas.  Some of the charities that JOY sponsors at the Alternative Christmas Market (including Greg Mortenson’s Central Asia Institute and the Laguna Beach Marine Mammal Center) come from the Gifts That Give More section.
Maybe we can save the world – one click at a time.  Get clickin’.
