On our third Stewardship Sunday with the pirate theme, “Surrender the Booty,” we explore a simple little warning from Commodore Jesus: “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” More often than not, we think the reverse: what we love is what we treasure. But the Commodore is wiser, he knows that our hearts follow our treasure, so we need to be careful what we treasure.
Commodore Jesus’ message is hard to hear in a culture that values and treasures getting ahead, being famous, possessing every gadget ever conceived, dying with the most toys, etc. These are not things the Commodore, nor his Father the Admiral, values. We are called to give our hearts away in the fullness of love.
