SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 64:1-4, 8; Luke 12:49-50

On this fourth and final Sunday of Advent, we celebrate the gift of God’s love. But Isaiah warns us that God’s love is not the warm fuzzies we feel when reading a card from Hallmark. Rather, God’s love is fierce: tearing open the heavens so that the mountains quake and fire is kindled on the earth. God’s love is stronger than the foundations of the earth; so when we invite that love into our hearts and into our lives, watch out! As we prepare for the birth of God’s son, let us celebrate a love that has the power to reshape our lives—for God is the potter and we are the clay.
