7-06-14: God's Providential Hand

Scripture Reading: Genesis 24:34-38, 42-49, 58-67

Over the next few weeks, Hebrew scripture recounts stories of Isaac and Rebekah and their children. Sunday’s text continues a traveling theme that dominates the stories of our early matriarchs and patriarchs. Abraham’s servant travels far from home to find a wife for Isaac. Rebekah, with the blessing of her family, travels far from her home to marry Isaac. Journeys of faith are often journeys of life in disguise. Thing we do for one reason, God uses for another. So it often is in the web of sacred community.
