Our final book for this year is 44 Scotland Street by Alexander McCall Smith

Interestingly, 44 Scotland Street started out as a serialized novel for a newspaper in Scotland.  Smith writes an preface explaining how he wrote this for a daily paper.  The novel takes place in Edinburgh, where Smith now lives.  It deals with the lives of the people who live at this address.  The characters are colorful, and there are love triangles, a lost painting, and an encounter with a famous Scottish crime writer.  It is a delightful and witty portrait of Edinburgh society—"a joyous, charming portrait of city life and human foibles, which moves beyond its setting to deal with deep moral issues and love, desire, and friendship."  Enjoy!
